Four 6 week old lab mixes are lucky to be alive today after they were found abandoned in a closed plastic tote in an alley in Joplin. A Good Samaritan was pushing his lawn mower down an alley heading to mow a neighbors grass. He heard a noise and saw a closed, green tote. When he opened the tote he was shocked to find four tiny puppies suffering from heat stress. He loaded them up and brought them to us; the puppies are now safe and recovering from their trauma.
It's heartbreaking to think that these puppies were disposed of like trash and left to die a horrible death in a sealed plastic container. Sadly, situations like this are less uncommon than one would think and the ending is not always happy. Joplin Humane Society never turns down puppies in need; the addition of this litter brings the total number of puppies and young dogs in our care to almost 100. Joplin Humane Society is currently caring for more than 187 dogs and puppies and 83 cats and kittens in our shelter in addition to 34 dogs and puppies and `130 cats and kittens in foster care.
Summer is the busiest time at animal shelters like ours as we struggle to make space for the influx of animals, especially puppies and kittens, that the season bring. The increased number of animals puts a significant strain on our already stretched budget....but we cannot turn away animals like these puppies who need us.
If you would like the help the puppies in the crate along with the hundreds of other homeless and unwanted pets that we are currently providing care for, please consider making a donation. Donate as little as $10 or as much as your are able to help all the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens who didn't deserve to be homeless. (You can donate more than $10 by selecting the "quantity" of $10 donations you would like to give.)
